same. Not much has changed since free trade was consummated in 1994

The Clintons, Sen. Bob Dole and Rep. Newt Gingrich acted as one in the betrayal of workers. Pres. Bush and Pres Obama followed in their boat. Now Gingrich wants to throw more overboard in the betrayal of workers. There's sharks in these waters...  Editorial cartoon was first published in 1994 but it still applies today in 2011.

(editorial cartoon and commentary by Ray Tapajna)

Pres. Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, now Secretary of State, Sen. Bob Dole and Rep Gingrich , who wants to be President  acted as one in the betrayal of workers and fed them to the big money sharks.  Pres. Bush and Pres. Obama did the same when they took over.  See Color in it Purple - link on this site.

After NAFTA  and GATT free trade agreements were passed the number of factories moved to Mexico doubled from 2,000 to more than 4,000 factories. Soon after that, President Clinton had to rush billions of dollars to Mexico to save the peso and the Mexican economy.  The first bail out stimulus package went to a foreign nation - Mexico. Congress gave Pres. Clinton only 20 billion dollars with Pres. Clinton then going to international money agencies to get more. How much more is not known since the operations of the international money funds are secret and outside of any real democratic process.

In our Occupy Wall Street era, we now know free trade would have never passed if it had to be ratified by a popular vote.

The Mexican bail out demonstrated free trade was a failure.  When Pres. Obama took over, he had to bail out the investment and big money communities. He then put them back in charge of the failed systems as our economy based on making money on money instead of making things is burning out. The same old secret deals were made with many banking and money changers got taxpayers money to keep afloat.

We now wait for the next economic bubble to burst, and no one knows what to do about it as we see the Euro dollar going down the drain with violent demonstrations around the world.

In the 1990s, we had money changers like "chainsaw" Dunlap who bought companies, stripped them of their management, moved corporate offices to new locations and fired thousands of workers. Wall Street awarded these actions with the stocks of these cannablized companies growing in value.  Wall Street called it an increase in productivity.

Companies like Enron and Worldcom cooked their books until there was nothing left to cook.  Since then Wall Street thrived on workers getting fired instead of hired.

Pres. Clinton had his "Wag the Dog" wars to hide our economic mess. Pres Bush followed and had his "Shock and Awe" wars for the same purpose.  Pres. Obama followed and did much more of the same while promoting conflict in the Middle East. However Pres Obama had to come out of the closet  when he bailed out big money and married it to big government.  The "trickle down economy" is now coming down from big government instead of the private sector. Both deny a living wage for most Americans.  Occupy Wall Street protests have evolved from this. The young activists in the protests are a new generation of activists who some call the "bottom up generation."  They want all decisions to made at the lowest level possible.  And if free trade had to be ratified by a popular vote, it is fair to day that none of the free trade agreements would have passed.  If this was the case, there would most likely be no need for the Occupy Wall Street protests.

Only about 38 percent of all workers in the U.S. qualify for unemployment insurance. This means more than 60 percent of all workers in the U.S. are missing in action from any kind of real reporting of the actual state of employment. Hurricane Katrina exposed a vast underclass living in a silent depression. The same scenario of suffering is evident in most of our major cities across America. The term underemployment has lost its meaning with even a single mother making only a $100 a month is considered employed. My all real world observations, it is evident that 50 percent of U.S. human resources are not being used.

Many jobs that once were considered entry level jobs are no longer that. Many families are trying to survive in these jobs. In places like Wal-Mart, McDonalds and other "bid-box" stores, vast number of workers need government and private assistance to survive.  One recent article told about  a Wal-mart  worker who refused to shop where she works... she says I have given them enough just by working there.  Many workers at McDonalds need food stamps but they can not spend the food stamp money where they work.
This is the state of our times with miles of major streets in the USA looking like a third world country. Many of the cities have been depopulated with many small farms filling the space that once was flourishing with activity.

There is no room in the boat for workers with many tossed overboard. And there are many money changer sharks taking advantage of the situation.
